Texans Lock In Star Young Wide Receiver with Major Extension
The Houston Texans are securing one of their young stars ahead of the 2024 NFL season. According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the team has signed wide receiver Nico Collins to a three-year contract extension worth approximately $24 million per season.
At 25, Collins is the latest wide receiver to receive a significant contract extension this offseason, highlighting the growing value of the position in the NFL.
Drafted in the third round by the Texans in 2021 out of Michigan, Collins had a breakout 2023 season, catching passes from rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud. He recorded 80 receptions for 1,297 yards and eight touchdowns, a significant improvement from his previous best season in 2022 with 481 yards.
Last season, Stroud achieved a 129.6 QB rating when targeting Collins, underscoring his importance to the team.
This extension follows Houston’s acquisition of Pro Bowl wide receiver Stefon Diggs from the Buffalo Bills and Pro Bowl running back Joe Mixon from the Cincinnati Bengals earlier in the offseason.
The Texans are coming off a successful 2023 campaign, winning the AFC South with 10 victories, and are considered one of the most talented young teams in the NFL. Extending Collins further solidifies their promising roster.
