BC Lions Finalize Preseason Roster with Notable Player Releases

The final week of the CFL preseason kicks off with eight teams competing in four games. All nine teams are preparing to finalize their rosters before the regular season starts on June 6, with the defending Grey Cup champions, the Montreal Alouettes, visiting the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

The BC Lions were particularly active on Monday, releasing eight players. The following individuals are now free agents:

– Joe Beckett, LB (American)
– KeSean Brown, LB (American)
– Tyon Davis, DB (American)
– Taylor Grimes, WR (American)
– Taquan Mizzell, RB (American)
– Dakota Prukop, QB (American)
– Jassin States-McClean, DB (National)
– Mataio Talalemotu, WR (American)

Among those released, the most notable is quarterback Dakota Prukop, who joined the Lions in the offseason. Prukop played in the Lions’ 30-6 loss to the Calgary Stampeders last week, recording 56 passing yards and nine rushing yards. The 30-year-old quarterback previously spent two seasons with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, primarily in short-yardage roles.

Another surprise was the release of running back Taquan Mizzell, who was a starter for the Lions last year. Mizzell rushed for 773 yards and three touchdowns, and added 291 receiving yards and two touchdowns in 14 games.

The BC Lions will conclude their preseason on Friday against the Edmonton Elks, with their first regular season game scheduled for June 9 on the road against the Toronto Argonauts.
