Despite Postseason Absence, Kawhi Leonard’s Regular Season Stands…

Los Angeles Clippers star Kawhi Leonard had another stellar regular season, despite being unable to finish the season healthy. This week, he was officially recognized for his outstanding play as the league announced the All-NBA and All-Defensive teams. Leonard was named to the 2023-24 All-NBA Second Team, alongside New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson, Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards, Los Angeles Lakers forward Anthony Davis, and Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant.

This marks Leonard’s sixth All-NBA selection and his third as a Second Team member. With this selection, Leonard joins an elite group of NBA players, becoming the 14th player in NBA history to earn six All-NBA selections and seven All-Defensive team honors. The Clippers forward joins a prestigious list that includes Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Chris Paul, Tim Duncan, Hakeem Olajuwon, John Havlicek, David Robinson, Kevin Garnett, Gary Payton, Scottie Pippen, Walt Frazier, and Jason Kidd.

In his second year after ACL surgery and first following meniscus surgery, Leonard averaged 23.7 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.6 steals per game for the Clippers in 68 appearances. He achieved a career-high shooting percentage from the field and the second-best mark from three-point range.

Next season, Leonard will enter a new three-year, $151 million deal with the Los Angeles Clippers. It remains to be seen if his teammates Paul George and James Harden will negotiate deals to rejoin him on the Clippers next season.
