Battlehawks Quarterback Benched by Ankle Injury

Quarterback AJ McCarron will miss the St. Louis Battlehawks’ United Football League game against the D.C. Defenders on Sunday due to an ankle injury. McCarron, who was injured in the fourth quarter of last week’s 30-26 loss to the Birmingham Stallions, did not miss any snaps during that game but is now listed as inactive for Week 8. Manny Wilkins will start as quarterback, with Brandon Silvers as the backup.

McCarron has had a standout season, completing 154-of-231 passes for 1,467 yards with 14 touchdowns and three interceptions. His 14 touchdown passes lead the league by four.

Wilkins’ only appearance this season was in a 45-12 victory over D.C., where he had two rushing attempts for 11 yards and a touchdown. Silvers, who started eight games for the Houston Roughnecks last season, has not played this season.
