Emotion and Doubters Fuel Angus Crichton’s…
When the star-studded Sydney Roosters traveled to Las Vegas for the NRL season opener, Angus Crichton found himself at a career crossroads. Once one of the game’s top forwards, he had fallen out of favor, missing the first two games as younger players like Siua Wong and Sitili Tupouniua were chosen instead.
However, when coach Trent Robinson gave him a chance, Crichton seized the opportunity, regaining top form and earning a recall to the NSW Blues squad for the State of Origin opener. Speaking at the Blues camp, Crichton admitted the early-season setback motivated him to prove his doubters wrong. “I knew if I got the opportunity, I could perform,” he said.
Crichton has excelled in his 10 appearances this season, scoring six tries and averaging 128 run meters and 28 tackles per game. His strong performances have helped the Roosters become genuine premiership contenders.
Despite his form and selection for NSW, Crichton’s future with the Roosters remains uncertain, with several rival clubs interested in signing him. The recent saga involving David Fifita, who initially planned to join the Roosters before reneging, has complicated Crichton’s situation.
Crichton revealed there has been no decision about his future yet, but he understands the club’s actions are business-related and not personal. He mentioned having a positive discussion with coach Robinson following the Fifita ordeal.
Blues coach Michael Maguire has been supportive of Crichton throughout his challenges, always believing in his talent. Crichton will partner with Panthers’ Liam Martin in the back-row for the State of Origin clash against the Maroons.
