Canterbury Bulldogs’ Major Signing: Leigh Leopards Secure Dominant Force Tom Amone for 2025 Season!
The Canterbury Bulldogs have officially secured the signing of Leigh Leopards’ powerhouse prop, Tom Amone, on a two-year contract starting from 2025. This announcement, first disclosed by Love Rugby League earlier this week, marks a significant move for the NRL side.
Amone, 27, swiftly became a beloved figure at Leigh since his arrival before the 2022 season, amassing 70 appearances for the Leopards thus far. Notably, he played a pivotal role in Leigh’s promotion to the Super League in his debut season and contributed to their Challenge Cup triumph at Wembley last year. His exceptional performance earned him a spot in the 2023 Super League Dream Team alongside four of his Leigh teammates.
Having previously played 17 NRL matches for South Sydney Rabbitohs and Wests Tigers between 2019 and 2021, Amone is set to conclude his current contract with Leigh in the Super League this season before returning to the NRL fold in 2025.
Phil Gould, the Canterbury Bulldogs’ general manager of football, expressed his enthusiasm about Amone’s return to the NRL, highlighting his dominance in the UK over the past two years and emphasizing his anticipated impact on the team’s forward line.
Leigh Leopards’ head coach, Adrian Lam, acknowledged the potential departure of Amone during his recent press conference, praising the prop’s significant influence on the team’s performance. While Lam emphasized the challenge of replacing such a valuable player, he expressed confidence in the club’s ability to develop new talents to fill the void left by departing players.
Amone’s imminent return to the NRL signals a new chapter in his career, with the Bulldogs eagerly anticipating his arrival for the upcoming pre-season at Belmore.
