Michigan State Prioritizes Recruiting Three-Star Athletes, Extends Offer to Tight End Lincoln Keyes

Michigan State and Coach Jonathan Smith have centered their recruiting strategy on acquiring talented three-star athletes, especially for the offensive line. Recently, the Spartans extended a scholarship offer to three-star tight end Lincoln Keyes.

After spending time with the Michigan State coaching staff, Keyes gained insight into Coach Smith’s vision for him if he joins the team. According to Keyes, tight ends coach Brian Wozniak sees him playing more as a wide receiver rather than a traditional blocking tight end, which aligns with Keyes’ strengths.

“I’m a pretty big guy, but I move really well,” Keyes told On3’s Jason Killop. “My routes are solid, and I am fast. Coach Wozniak likes how quick I move. He sees me split out wide as a tight end rather than an extra lineman.”

Keyes also had the opportunity to review film of how Smith utilized tight ends at Oregon State, giving him a clearer idea of his potential role with the Spartans.

“During my visit, we watched some film on Oregon State tight ends,” Keyes said. “They are solid. I like how they run their routes. Whenever I visit a college, I examine their tight ends, their history, and how they play to see if I can fit in similarly.”

Keyes, preparing for his junior season at Saline High School, aims to become a more integral part of their offense with increased playing time. He plans to limit his college visits but intends to revisit East Lansing this summer due to its proximity to his home.

“I’m keeping my visits low-key this summer,” Keyes said. “Just focusing on a few places. I will definitely head back to Michigan State. It’s close, so why not go back and build on that relationship?”
