New York Rangers Sign Defenseman Carter Berger to One-Year AHL Contract

New York Rangers Assistant General Manager and Hartford Wolf Pack General Manager Ryan Martin announced today that the club has signed defenseman Carter Berger to a one-year, standard AHL player contract.

Berger, drafted in the fourth round of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, is now beginning his professional hockey career. He joined the Broncos for the 2022-23 season and quickly made an impact.

In his two years with the Broncos, Berger accumulated 43 points in 69 games, with nine goals and 34 assists. In his final season in Kalamazoo, he led all defensemen on the team with 16 assists.

Additionally, he finished his two-year tenure with the Broncos with a +28 plus/minus rating, 45 blocked shots, and two power-play goals. His performance during the 2023-24 season earned him the title of the team’s most valuable defenseman.

Throughout his college career, Berger produced 70 points, including 13 goals and 57 assists, across 156 games, with a +42 plus/minus rating.

Berger also contributed to the Broncos’ third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, a first in program history, and helped the team achieve over 20 victories each of the past three years.

“My time at Western has been nothing short of amazing,” Berger said. “The players and staff welcomed me from day one, and the competitive environment they created helped me succeed and grow both as a player and a person. I will forever cherish my time as a Bronco.”
