Richmond is set to make their first trip to Geelong since 2017 with a “nothing to lose” mentality, aiming to exploit the Cats’ recent four-game losing streak.
Following consecutive heavy defeats to the Western Bulldogs and Brisbane Lions in May, Richmond showed resilience in a close Dreamtime loss to the in-form Essendon last Saturday night.
Star player Dustin Martin showcased his dazzling form against the Bombers and has a history of stellar performances against Geelong.
Although missing key players like Shai Bolton (due to concussion) and Dion Prestia (managed), Richmond welcomes back premiership midfielder Jack Graham from injury.
Coach Adem Yze emphasized that the Tigers, currently with a 1-10 record, would embrace their underdog status against Geelong.
“We’re heading down there with nothing to lose,” Yze stated. “It’s been a while since we played there, so that’s exciting in itself. We’ll need to generate our own intensity and energy, which could unsettle the opposition.”
Yze plans to continue coaching from the bench after a successful stint in the role during the Bombers match, citing improved player engagement and momentum management.
Geelong coach Chris Scott expressed confidence despite the team’s recent struggles, indicating a belief in their ability to rebound.
“I’ve been pleased with our approach in the last couple of weeks,” Scott remarked. “Although the results haven’t gone our way, I don’t view it as a disaster. When we find our rhythm, we’ll be a formidable opponent. The season remains tight and unpredictable.”
