Broncos Insider Reveals Troubling but Hopeful Update on 24-Year-Old Tight End

The Denver Broncos began their annual organized team activities two weeks ago, but former third-round tight end Greg Dulcich was absent as he continues to rehab a foot injury from the 2023 season. According to 9News’ Mike Klis, the 24-year-old tight end had surgery earlier in the offseason to repair the issue.

Klis noted that the surgery took place “well before” the start of NFL free agency in March, giving Dulcich ample time to rehab post-surgery. Drafted 80th overall by the Broncos in the 2022 NFL Draft, Dulcich has been plagued by back-to-back season-ending injuries, causing significant frustration over his limited availability in his first two seasons.

Despite his ongoing recovery, head coach Sean Payton expects Dulcich to return “soon” and compete for the starting spot on Denver’s roster. However, his path to the starting position is complicated by the rise of tight end Lucas Krull, who stood out during the team’s first week of OTA practices and is currently favored to start.

To reclaim his projected role as a star tight end in the AFC, Dulcich will need to outperform Krull. In his rookie season, Dulcich recorded 33 receptions for 411 yards and two touchdowns in just six games. His talent and athleticism are evident whenever he plays, but injuries remain a significant concern.

Given the news that Greg Dulcich underwent foot surgery and has dealt with numerous hamstring tweaks over his first two seasons, there is a clear rationale for the Broncos to start relying on other players at the tight end position on their roster.
