Red Sox Explore Potential Mid-Season Boost with Mets’ Sean Manaea as Rotation Reinforcement
The Boston Red Sox find themselves in a unique position.
Currently sitting one game below .500 at 28-29, there is still reason for optimism among fans. The Red Sox have hovered around .500 this season but have yet to play at full strength.
Reinforcements are on the horizon, as both Masataka Yoshida and Triston Casas are making significant progress in their injury recoveries.
However, the rotation needs a boost, especially with Garrett Whitlock expected to miss the rest of the season due to elbow surgery.
Boston’s next steps remain uncertain, but if the team stays in postseason contention this summer, one potential target could be New York Mets starter Sean Manaea.
The Mets have had a challenging season, and according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, Manaea is the third most likely Met to be traded if they decide to sell.
Manaea has been impressive this season, posting a 3.16 ERA and a 47-to-22 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 51 1/3 innings pitched. Additionally, his contract includes a player option, potentially keeping him in Boston for the 2025 season, although that’s not guaranteed.
The 32-year-old has performed exceptionally well and could be a significant replacement for Whitlock, enhancing the Red Sox’s chances of securing a playoff spot.
