Toto Wolff Admits Lewis Hamilton Can Achieve Record-Breaking F1 Championship with Ferrari

Lewis Hamilton has the potential to win a record-breaking F1 championship with Ferrari, according to Toto Wolff.

Hamilton is currently in his final year with Mercedes before joining Ferrari, the most successful team in Formula 1 history.

Wolff, Hamilton’s current boss, acknowledges that Hamilton, as a future rival, has the capability to achieve glory in Italy.

“If Ferrari provides Lewis with a competitive car, he can win a world championship,” Wolff told the PA news agency. “There is no doubt about that.”

Wolff expressed that he will always maintain a personal relationship with Hamilton and fondly remember their time together, both professionally and personally. “When Lewis moves to Ferrari, he becomes a competitor, but I will always wish him happy days,” he added.

The latest series of Netflix’s ‘Drive to Survive’ captured Wolff and Hamilton discussing their partnership at Mercedes. Wolff mentioned that he couldn’t picture Hamilton in red, just before Hamilton signed a new contract with Mercedes.

Hamilton later revealed his plan to leave Mercedes early to join Ferrari in 2025.

Wolff commented on his remark about Hamilton wearing red: “That is what he said to me. He said he was going to stay and then decided to go. But people change their minds and circumstances change, and you have to respect that. Today’s opinion might be different tomorrow, and I have no hard feelings.”

Hamilton has not won an F1 grand prix since 2021. Mercedes has faced three challenging years, remaining winless since 2022, when George Russell won in Brazil.

This year, Hamilton trails 7-1 in qualifying head-to-heads with teammate Russell, a source of frustration at the recent F1 Monaco Grand Prix.

While Hamilton remains unable to end Max Verstappen’s dominance at Mercedes, a new chapter awaits him next year at Ferrari.
