Unlock the Power Within: Discover the Secret Star Driving the Hawks to Victory Every Day!
When Hawthorn announced their senior leadership lineup for the season, it featured James Sicily as captain, with Dylan Moore and Luke Breust as his deputies. However, they kept quiet about the rest of the leadership group.
Now, it has come to light that one member quietly added to this group is midfield sensation Will Day.
“Will is already part of the leadership group,” revealed coach Sam Mitchell when questioned about Day’s involvement. “While we may have only disclosed a six-person group to the public, he’s actively engaged in our leadership initiatives.
As the Hawks gear up to extend their recent winning streak against Adelaide at the MCG, Day expressed his enthusiasm for the added responsibility.
“I’ve embraced the challenge this year,” shared the 2023 Peter Crimmins medallist. “It’s something I’ve been eyeing since joining the club. Now that I’ve taken on this role, I’ve really relished it and strived to be a positive influence around the club.”
Day’s leadership potential has long been recognized at Hawthorn. Former skipper Ben McEvoy, back in 2022, hailed him as a “special talent” and a future captaincy contender. Now, as Day grows more confident in his leadership role, his impact on and off the field is undeniable.
“Earlier in the year, while sidelined due to injury, I was still involved in the leadership discussions,” Day explained. “It was a learning curve to contribute without being on the field, but I’ve adapted well. Now that I’m back playing, it feels like a natural progression.”
Seeking guidance from Hawthorn legends like Luke Hodge and his own grandfather, a former premiership player, Day is determined to make a lasting impression.
“Peter Hudson often reaches out to offer advice,” Day shared. “Their wisdom and encouragement mean a lot to me.”
Coach Mitchell praised Day’s on-field leadership, highlighting his strategic understanding and communication skills.
“Will acts as a coach on the field for us,” Mitchell remarked. “His vision and communication are top-notch, contributing significantly to our game strategy.”
With Day’s recent impressive performances on the field, including standout games against Brisbane Lions, his potential as a pivotal player for Hawthorn is evident.
“As a key member of our midfield, Day’s impact is undeniable,” Mitchell added. “His recent form demonstrates his importance to the team.”
As Day continues to grow into his leadership role, both on and off the field, the future looks bright for the emerging star and the Hawthorn Football Club.
