Daicos Drama: Collingwood’s Nick Daicos Under Fire for Play-Acting, Sparks Gold Logie Comparisons

Collingwood sensation Nick Daicos is under fire from footy fans, accused of play-acting in an off-the-ball incident involving Western Bulldogs defender Taylor Duryea.

The 21-year-old midfielder was seen clutching his jaw after the alleged contact, leading to Duryea being reported for striking. AFL figures like Brian Taylor and Matthew Richardson suggested a fine would be adequate punishment.

Video footage circulating online suggests Daicos may have exaggerated the contact during the incident at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne on Friday night. This sparked a storm on social media, with supporters accusing the Collingwood player of ‘staging’ to earn free kicks.

“And the Gold Logie goes to,” radio host Brian Peel sarcastically commented in response to the footage.

Despite the controversy, Duryea remained tight-lipped post-game. An awkward moment occurred on Channel 7 when Duryea stood directly in the background in the sheds as commentators discussed the clash involving Daicos.

The Bulldogs secured a crucial victory, positioning them in 10th place following a remarkable team effort, especially in the final quarter against the typically strong-finishing Magpies, who were held to just one behind.

Coach Luke Beveridge praised the performance, highlighting the efforts of key players like Marcus Bontempelli and Adam Treloar in the midfield.

Bontempelli, in particular, showcased his leadership with 38 disposals, 10 clearances, and two goals, leading the Bulldogs to victory.

Collingwood, the defending premiers, face the possibility of dropping out of the top eight depending on other results this weekend following their 18-point defeat.
