Florida Gators Target Four-Star TE Tae’shaun Gelsey, Sets Commitment Date for July

Following his official visit over the weekend, Tae’shaun Gelsey, a four-star tight end prospect from Riverside High School in Jacksonville, has announced his commitment timeline. Gelsey told Gators Illustrated on Sunday that he plans to announce his decision on either July 6 or July 13, with the Florida Gators ranking highly on his list.

“It was a great visit. Everybody was just engaged. Everybody knew who everybody was. You could tell they build great relationships with each other,” Gelsey said.

Standing at 6’4″ and 215 pounds, Gelsey is considered a high-priority recruit for Florida, known for its use of two tight end formations. The Gators’ emphasis on this strategy, combined with their track record of sending tight ends to the NFL, made a significant impression on him.

“That matchup nightmare type of position. I think that’s a great idea because they showed that they can make that position get to the NFL,” he said. “Kyle Pitts went fourth overall in the NFL Draft. Just following behind that is a great idea.”

As Gelsey approaches his commitment date, he mentioned he currently doesn’t have a top school and is focused on visiting different campuses and building relationships.

“I’m real big on relationships, and (Florida) showed me a lot of that this weekend. That put them up there,” he said.

Next on Gelsey’s itinerary is a visit to Tulane next weekend, with plans to visit Wake Forest and potentially Auburn as well. Given these upcoming visits and his July commitment announcement, Florida made a strong push to secure his commitment over the weekend.

“You want to visit as many colleges as you can because you want to find the best fit for you,” he explained. “With my commitment being in July and coming on the OV this weekend, they’ve been trying to get me to commit.”
