Club Owner and Fans Unite Against Racism, Reject Mitchell Amidst Social Media Backlash Following Hawks’ Game

Hawthorn marked the 10-year anniversary of their 2014 premiership in spectacular fashion, clinching a 27-point victory over Adelaide at the MCG on Saturday afternoon.

The Hawks dominated the game from start to finish, with vice-captain Dylan Moore’s standout performance stealing the spotlight. Moore’s career-best five-goal haul and 27 disposals were instrumental in Hawthorn’s commanding lead throughout the match.

However, amidst the celebrations, coach Sam Mitchell used his post-match press conference to address a troubling issue. He passionately condemned racist abuse directed at one of his players on social media, emphasizing that such behavior would not be tolerated within the club.

Mitchell asserted, “If you have any form of racism in you as a Hawthorn person, we are not interested in having you as part of our club.” He emphasized that online racists aligned with the Hawthorn colors would find no acceptance at the Hawks.

Despite this unsettling incident, the Hawks’ resilience shone through. Milestone player Jack Gunston, celebrating his 250th game, sealed the victory with a third goal in the final minute. Gunston’s stellar performance, along with the team’s overall resolve, showcased their ability to overcome adversity.

While the victory was marred by a second-quarter incident involving Changkuoth Jiath being placed on report for headbutting, the Hawks’ triumph and determination to maintain control despite challenges underscored their strength as a team.
