Auburn Coach Challenges Media Over ‘Anonymous’ Roster Critique
Former Auburn head football coach Bryan Harsin recently questioned claims made by a prominent sports media outlet, alleging misinformation involving his name.
Athlon Sports, in its preview of the upcoming college football season, focused on the SEC and discussed Auburn’s struggle to regain success after a decade of mediocrity. After replacing Gus Malzahn in 2020, Harsin’s short and turbulent tenure saw a 6-7 record in his first year, followed by rumors and character attacks that he firmly denied.
Despite expressing his commitment to the program, Harsin was fired mid-way through his second season after a 3-5 start. Hugh Freeze then took over, ending his first season with a 6-7 record.
In Athlon’s preview, an “anonymous” coach claimed Auburn’s current roster was superior to Harsin’s, particularly in offensive and defensive lines. Harsin doubted the authenticity of these anonymous remarks and demanded proof.
Harsin, now back in Boise, Idaho, continues to defend his Auburn tenure despite being out of college football since his firing.
