Manager Alex Cora announced during his weekly appearance on WEEI’s Jones & Mego with Arcand that right fielder Wilyer Abreu will be placed on the 10-day injured list starting Tuesday.
A source revealed that the Red Sox plan to call up catcher Tyler Heineman from Triple-A Worcester to fill the roster spot.
Bobby Dalbec will step in as the right fielder for Tuesday’s game against the Braves at Fenway Park. Although Dalbec has never played in the outfield at the major league level, he has experience with 14 starts in right field for Worcester this season.

Abreu sustained an ankle injury after tripping down the dugout stairs late in Sunday’s game.
The 24-year-old Abreu has become a strong contender for the AL Rookie of the Year, boasting a .272 batting average, a .344 on-base percentage, a .485 slugging percentage, and an .829 OPS. In 53 games (189 plate appearances), he has hit six home runs, 14 doubles, two triples, and has 22 RBIs, 26 runs, seven stolen bases, 19 walks, and 49 strikeouts.
Heineman, who is 0-for-1 with a hit by pitch in one game with Boston this year, has a .235 batting average, a .398 on-base percentage, a .338 slugging percentage, and a .736 OPS in 22 games (90 plate appearances) for Worcester. The 32-year-old has also hit two home runs and one double.
