Lucas Giolito has been absent since the start of 2024 and won’t return until 2025. Recently, Wilyer Abreu joined the injured list with a sprained ankle, while Tyler O’Neill is recovering from knee inflammation.
Despite these challenges, the Red Sox have maintained a .500 record and stayed within reach of the American League Wild Card race. Even with a lineup featuring several rookies over the weekend, manager Alex Cora views this as the current reality for the team, not necessarily a negative.
Cora highlighted the team’s progress in player development and acknowledged the solid pitching performance during his weekly appearance on WEEI’s “Jones & Mego With Arcand” on Tuesday. He emphasized that while they haven’t played exceptionally well, they’ve managed to stay competitive, trailing the Twins by 3 ½ games.
The Red Sox have leaned on their pitching staff, with Tanner Houck shining and pitching coach Andrew Bailey contributing to their success. With plenty of baseball left in the season, the team anticipates getting healthier as time progresses.
Looking ahead, Boston aims to surpass the .500 mark as they host the Braves for a brief two-game series at Fenway Park.
