Breaking: Kansas Guard Elmarko Jackson Ruled Out for Next Season Due to Knee Injury

Kansas sophomore guard Elmarko Jackson will sit out the 2024-25 season after tearing his patellar tendon during a workout, according to an announcement by Jayhawks head coach Bill Self on Wednesday. Jackson is scheduled to undergo surgery in the upcoming days, with an anticipated recovery period of one year. Standing at 6-foot-3, the guard sustained the injury on Tuesday. Despite the setback, a full recovery is expected. Expressing disappointment, Self stated, “We are all crushed by this. Elmarko has had a terrific spring. He has worked so hard and improved so much.” In his freshman year, Jackson averaged 4.3 points and 18.6 minutes in 34 games, including 17 starts.

Kansas’ athletic director Travis Goff has been granted a contract extension, now extending through 2031.

The Star has confirmed that Travis Goff, the athletic director for KU, will be staying in Lawrence until at least 2031. This extension, reported by ESPN’s Pete Thamel, includes a base salary increase to $1.3 million for this year, with incremental increases annually. Goff expressed gratitude for the opportunity to continue serving the university and its student-athletes. His title will now be “Director of Athletics/Vice Chancellor for Athletics.”

Goff’s salary structure for the upcoming years, including retention bonuses, has been outlined. Notably, if he leaves before May 31, 2026, he would owe the university a buyout starting at $5 million, decreasing annually. Conversely, if Kansas terminates his contract without cause, Goff would receive the equivalent of his buyout at that time.

Originally joining KU in 2021, Goff’s initial contract was to end in June 2026 with a $700,000 yearly compensation. This new agreement marks a substantial increase, addressing his status as the lowest-paid AD in the Big 12 initially.

During his tenure, Goff has made significant strides for the Jayhawks, including hiring successful coaches like Lance Leipold for football and overseeing various athletic program improvements. Chancellor Douglas Girod praised Goff’s leadership and contributions, expressing excitement for the future under his guidance.
