Yzerman to Meet with Top NHL Agents This Week
The Detroit Red Wings are entering a crucial summer for their franchise. General manager Steve Yzerman must finalize contracts with young core players Moritz Seider and Lucas Raymond, while also continuing to improve the roster and advance the prolonged rebuild.
A recent article by Pierre LeBrun in The Athletic covered the futures of several NHL players and GMs, including Jake Guentzel, Mitch Marner, Sam Reinhart, and former Red Wings GM Ken Holland, whose contract with the Oilers expires on June 30th.
At the end of the article, LeBrun mentioned that two prominent player agents are expected to meet with Yzerman this week. Allan Walsh, who represents David Perron, is one of them. Perron, who defended teammate Dylan Larkin during an incident in December, expressed his desire to stay with the Red Wings during his season-ending interview.
Yzerman is also expected to meet with Pat Brisson, who represents Patrick Kane and Lucas Raymond. Yzerman aims to settle contracts with his high-priced restricted free agents to manage the budget before making further roster changes. It remains uncertain if there will be room for both Perron and Kane next season, making this week’s developments highly anticipated. However, Yzerman is known for keeping his plans closely guarded.
