Florida State’s football coaching staff welcomed several highly-regarded prospects to campus over the weekend as June nears its midpoint. Despite this, the Seminoles’ recruiting class still consists of only four commitments.
Since January, when four-star defensive end Javion Hilson switched his commitment from Alabama to Florida State, the program has not secured another prospect. Fans are eagerly anticipating the next addition to the class.
Head football coach Mike Norvell and his staff prioritize building relationships and finding the right fit for Florida State in recruiting, a philosophy not universally embraced across college football. Yet, Norvell seems to have mastered the art of recruiting a balanced mix of high school recruits and transfers.
While flashy amenities like fancy cars (a nod to Texas) aren’t necessary to attract commitments, Florida State boasts an impressive 23-4 record over the past two seasons. The allure of success on the field, coupled with the excitement of wearing the new N7 turquoise jerseys, has captured the attention of recruits visiting campus.
As a traditionalist when it comes to uniforms, I believe that when players feel good, they perform well. While I still hold the garnet and gold combination in high esteem, I recognize the appeal of the new “Seminole Heritage” jerseys, which recruits seem to love. It wouldn’t be surprising to see the Seminoles don these jerseys during their November matchup against Charleston Southern. Regardless, I hope the recruits enjoyed the opportunity to experience the new uniforms.
