Collingwood Player Involved in Fatal Crash on Brand Highway.

A former Collingwood player appeared in court after a crash in Western Australia that resulted in the deaths of two people. Emergency services responded to a collision involving two cars and a road train towing two trailers on Brand Highway in Cooljarloo, approximately 170 km north of Perth, at around 9 am on Friday.

WA Police allege that Shannon John Cox, 38, was driving a Toyota Prado southbound when it collided with a northbound Suzuki Ignis hatchback. The hatchback, driven by an 82-year-old woman with an 83-year-old female passenger, resulted in both women dying at the scene. A 12-year-old girl was also injured.

Five St John ambulances and two RAC Rescue helicopters were dispatched, but the helicopters were later stood down. Cox has been charged with two counts of dangerous driving causing death. Both Cox and the 31-year-old male driver of the Volvo truck were uninjured.

Cox, from Spalding, appeared in Northbridge Magistrates Court in Perth on Saturday and was remanded in custody, with a bail hearing scheduled for June 18 at Perth Magistrates Court. Major Crash Investigation Section investigators are seeking witnesses to the crash. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000.

The former Magpie played 25 games for Collingwood before retiring in 2009.
