Illinois football boosts offense with key Indiana commitment
The Illini are assembling an impressive class of 2025. Entering Sunday, the class had six players, with many more visiting campus for official visits.
One notable commitment is quarterback Carson Boyd, the future at the position who will need talented receivers. On Sunday night, Illinois secured one such talent when Davion Chandler announced his commitment on social media.
Chandler, a 6-foot, 170-pound wide receiver from Lawrence North High School in Indiana, is a three-star recruit, ranked No. 767 overall in the class of 2025, No. 122 among wide receivers, and No. 10 in Indiana. Illinois outcompeted several programs, including Wisconsin and Indiana, for his commitment.
The Illinois coaching staff is focusing on building a strong 2025 class, particularly on offense. Besides Boyd, who is ranked in the top 700 nationally, their top commitment is wide receiver Brayden Trimble from Mt. Zion, Illinois, ranked in the top 500 nationally.
Currently, five of the top six players in Illinois’ 2025 class are offensive players, including two key offensive linemen to protect Boyd in the future.
The emphasis on offense is promising, aiming to rebuild Illinois’ long-lost powerful offense, with players like Chandler playing a crucial role.
