Iowa State Secures Commitment from New Jersey WR Karon Brookins

Iowa State football has successfully secured a commitment from unranked wide receiver Karon Brookins from New Jersey, as he recently announced on social media.

Brookins made his decision to join the Cyclones after an official visit to the Iowa State campus from June 7-9. This visit provided him with an in-depth look at the Cyclone football program, his first since receiving an offer from the ISU coaching staff in early March.

Brookins chose Iowa State over offers from West Virginia, Temple, and Pitt. He had visited West Virginia unofficially in January, during which he received his scholarship offer from the Mountaineers.

During his junior year at Timber Creek in Erial, New Jersey, Brookins tallied 29 receptions for 532 yards and seven touchdowns, according to MaxPreps. This breakout season followed a sophomore campaign where he had 14 catches for 203 yards and two scores.

Brookins’ junior year highlights include a 71-yard reception and an average of nearly 60 receiving yards per game.

As he prepares for his senior season at Winslow Township, Brookins aims to continue his impressive high school progression. Standing at 6-foot-4, his size is a notable advantage, allowing him to exploit smaller defensive backs in press coverage. Additionally, his ball-tracking skills and speed enable him to create separation from defenders.

Brookins also excels in route running, demonstrating a strong plant foot and effective body movement on slants and crossing patterns.

Weighing in at 180 pounds, Brookins may need to add some strength before making a significant impact at the collegiate level. However, with a year or two in the weight room, he possesses promising traits as an outside receiver, particularly in red zone situations.

Brookins becomes the second wide receiver to commit to Iowa State’s 2025 class, joining three-star recruit Xzavion Robinson from Des Moines Valley.
