Lomax Sets Club Record with 32 Points in Dragons’ Decisive Victory Over Tigers

A club-record 32 points from Zac Lomax propelled the Dragons to an impressive 56-14 victory over the Wests Tigers on Friday night.

St George Illawarra delivered a stunning second-half performance, scoring 42 unanswered points to transform a 14-12 halftime deficit into a decisive win.

Just 48 hours after his Origin debut, Lomax recorded a hat-trick off a Ben Hunt kick and converted his 10th goal of the night. His 32 points set a new St George Illawarra record for most points in a single game, surpassing the previous record of 22 points held by Amos Roberts (2000), Jamie Soward (2007), Gareth Widdop (2015, 2017, 2018), and Lomax himself in 2021.

All three of St George Illawarra’s Origin stars played pivotal roles just two days after the series opener on Wednesday. Skipper Ben Hunt contributed a try, a line break, and four try assists, while Jaydn Su’A was solid in his 40-minute stint, finishing the match unscathed.

Dragons coach Shane Flanagan acknowledged areas for improvement in their first-half effort but was pleased with the overall result. “We’re keeping in touch with the eight, we improved our for and against a little bit, and we won at home against a side that’s starting to get a little bit desperate,” Flanagan said.

Off-contract Jack de Belin, rumored to be linked with the Rabbitohs for 2025, remains uncertain about his future with the Dragons. The 33-year-old has reportedly been offered a one-year extension to potentially conclude his career with St George. Additionally, there are speculative links to a switch to the Super League with Leigh Leopards next season.

Tyrell Sloan, having inked a new two-year deal with the Dragons, celebrated his extension through to 2026 with the emphatic victory over the Tigers.

The Red V now aim for a third consecutive win as they prepare to face Manly away this Sunday.
