Oklahoma State Football Shakes Up Roster: Star Tight End Tyler Foster Listed for Transfer Ahead of 2025 Season
Unlike previous years, Oklahoma State had the luxury of being selective in the transfer portal this offseason. With only a few departures after the 2023 season, the Cowboys had the opportunity to carefully choose who they brought in to address their needs for the 2024 season. Oklahoma State bolstered its roster by adding eight scholarship transfers: Gavin Freeman from Oklahoma (WR), Trent Howland from Indiana (RB), Tyler Foster from Ohio (TE), Da’Wain Lofton from Virginia Tech (WR), AJ Green from Arkansas (RB), Obi Ezeigbo from Gannon (DE), Isaia Glass from Arizona State (OT), and Kobe Hylton from UTEP (S).
CBS Sports’ Shehan Jeyarajah highlighted the top transfers across the Big 12, naming Tyler Foster, the tight end transfer from Ohio, as Oklahoma State’s standout acquisition of the offseason.
“Oklahoma State has traditionally not heavily targeted tight ends under Mike Gundy’s leadership, but the addition of Foster could change that,” writes Jeyarajah. “Standing at 6-foot-7, Foster presents a sizable target that could bolster an offense that struggled in converting red zone opportunities into touchdowns.”
Primarily used in blocking roles last season, Foster showcased his potential in the 2022 season, recording 185 yards and four touchdowns. Over the past two seasons, he has caught 33 passes for 396 yards.
Foster received the first offer from Oklahoma State after entering the transfer portal and ultimately chose the Cowboys over offers from Colorado State, Duke, Houston, James Madison, San Diego State, and West Virginia.
While replacing last year’s tight end transfer, Josiah Johnson from UMass, won’t be without its challenges, Foster is poised to step up to the task. With his imposing stature, he could prove to be a formidable presence both in the endzone and as a reliable blocker as the team’s primary tight end.
Head coach Mike Gundy expressed optimism about Foster’s progress during spring practices, noting his maturity, physicality, and learning capabilities. Gundy anticipates Foster serving as a mentor to younger players at the position while leveraging his experience on the field.
