Pace High’s Jayden Heavener Clinches Prestigious Title: Named Gatorade’s Florida Softball Player of the Year

Following her recognition as MaxPreps’ Florida Player of the Year in late May, Heavener now adds another feather to her cap as she secures the title of Gatorade’s Florida Softball Player of the Year. This prestigious award honors the nation’s most outstanding high-school athletes for their excellence not only on the field but also in academics and community engagement.

Described as a relentless force in the pitcher’s circle, Heavener’s prowess is lauded by Fort Walton Beach softball head coach Taryn Gray, who emphasizes her exceptional mental and physical abilities. Similarly, Pace head coach Lexi Alexander praises Heavener’s unshakable composure and resilience.

Heavener’s remarkable achievements extend beyond individual recognition, as evidenced by her pivotal role in leading the Patriots to a stellar 28-2 record and clinching the Class 6A state championship during the 2024 season. Notably, the championship victory over Bartow saw Heavener face off against Katelynn Oxley, the 2023 Gatorade Softball Player of the Year, further highlighting Heavener’s dominance in the sport.

During the 2024 season, Heavener’s statistics speak volumes about her exceptional talent, including 322 strikeouts and a mere 0.44 earned-run average, coupled with impressive offensive contributions boasting a .434 batting average, 12 home runs, and 35 runs batted in.

With her commitment to Louisiana State University, Heavener concludes her illustrious four-year tenure at Pace High School, marked by four state final four appearances and the crowning achievement of a state championship. Her staggering career numbers include 1,174 strikeouts in 502.1 innings pitched, a career ERA of 0.67, and an impressive tally of 27 no-hitters and four perfect games, reaffirming her status as a standout talent in high school softball.
