Breaking News: Sarkisian’s Recruiting Success Continues as Texas Lands Top 2025 Cornerback
Head coach Steve Sarkisian has continued to excel in recruiting during his tenure with the Texas Longhorns, a trend that is evident on the 2025 recruiting trail.
Texas’ latest commitment is Caleb Chester, a consensus three-star cornerback recruit from Missouri City, Texas. Chester received an offer from Texas in May 2023 and has been one of the staff’s top cornerback targets ever since. This commitment is particularly significant for the Longhorns as they beat out Texas A&M, TCU, Arkansas, and LSU for Chester’s signature.
In a state like Texas, in-state recruiting is crucial, so securing Chester’s commitment over competing schools like the Aggies and Horned Frogs is a major win for the Longhorns.
Ultimately, it was the overall Texas experience and the opportunity to learn from cornerbacks coach Terry Joseph that convinced the three-star recruit to choose Austin.
“It was really just ‘Why not Austin?'” Chester told 247Sports before making his decision. “It’s the biggest school, I want to major in business and they have the best business school in the country. It’s close to home, I’m still in Texas. I’ll be coached by coach Joseph, who has a great resume. I’ll also be coached by coach Sark, who is one of the winningest coaches in all of college football right now. The other aspects were just great. There was really no reason for me not to go to Texas.”
According to the 247Sports Composite, Chester is ranked as the No. 71 cornerback in the 2025 class. With Chester’s commitment, Texas now has 11 commitments for the 2025 class.
