Breaking News: Auburn football star retired from the NFL officially following…

Despite indications in February that he had retired, Auburn football legend Cam Newton clarified during the June 12 episode of his “4th&1” podcast that he never formally retired from the NFL.

“I haven’t played football in four years,” Newton stated (via Bleacher Report). “Do I think somebody is going to take a chance on me now? No. That’s me being honest. Cam, are you planning on retiring? No.”

Earlier, in February, Newton had mentioned, “I’m not a football player no more,” and identified himself as a YouTuber (via Boardroom).

Newton’s career took a hit due to a shoulder injury in 2018, which continued to affect him in subsequent seasons. Despite not looking fully healthy in 2021, he returned to the Carolina Panthers and provided significant effort, particularly on the ground.

If Newton’s NFL career is indeed over, his return to Carolina tied up loose ends. However, with ongoing issues for the Panthers, there remains speculation about one more run as a mentor or change-of-pace quarterback in the Queen City.
