Guardians Explore Trade Options as 2024 Deadline Approaches, Eyeing Key Additions

San Francisco Giants right fielder Michael Conforto (8)

As the 2024 MLB trade deadline approaches, rumors are swirling around many teams, with the Cleveland Guardians expected to be prominent buyers. With a stellar 43-23 record, the Guardians are among the best in baseball and have legitimate World Series aspirations. However, bolstering certain areas could enhance their chances.

One position Cleveland might target is corner outfielder. In a recent article, Jim Bowden of The Athletic suggested several potential trade targets for the Guardians, including San Francisco Giants outfielder Michael Conforto.

Conforto presents an intriguing option for Cleveland. Although not a star like Luis Robert Jr., his lower price tag makes him an attractive acquisition, capable of providing a solid impact. So far in the 2024 season, Conforto has played 46 games, posting a .241/.294/.431 slash line with eight home runs and 22 RBIs.

While acquiring Conforto might not be the flashy move that guarantees a World Series push, combining this with another move for a starting pitcher could significantly strengthen the team. Cleveland would still rely on its players performing at their peak in the postseason.

At 31, Conforto would likely be a half-year rental, as his contract expires after the 2024 season, making him a free agent. This could mean the acquisition cost isn’t too steep, allowing Cleveland to make multiple moves rather than one big trade.

As the trade deadline nears, expect an increase in rumors and trade discussions. Conforto is certainly a name to watch as the Guardians strategize to enhance their roster for a deep postseason run.
