Hawthorn has secured their rising star utility, Blake Hardwick, with a substantial five-year contract extension, ensuring his presence at the club until the end of 2029.
Since his emergence in 2017 as a dependable lockdown defender under Alistair Clarkson, Hardwick has evolved remarkably. Transitioning seamlessly to a forward role under Sam Mitchell, he showcased his versatility and impact, notably with a standout performance in Round 10 against Port Adelaide, where he scored five goals from 23 disposals and six marks.
Consistently excelling in various roles, Hardwick has been a mainstay in Hawthorn’s lineup, earning top-five finishes in the club’s best & fairest four times, including two runner-up positions. His standout season in 2021 further solidified his status as a key contributor, averaging 21 disposals, five marks, and two tackles per game.
Despite missing Hawthorn’s golden era, Hardwick’s loyalty and dedication bode well for the club’s future resurgence under the guidance of coach Sam Mitchell.
Mark McKenzie, Hawthorn’s List Manager, expressed delight in securing Hardwick’s services, emphasizing his reliability, selflessness, and invaluable versatility. At 27 years old, Hardwick aligns perfectly with the club’s developmental trajectory, poised to deliver his prime years to Hawthorn’s success in the seasons ahead.
