Newcastle’s Coup: Securing £30m-Rated English Gem Deals Blow to Chelsea’s Transfer Aspirations
Newcastle has surged ahead in the race to secure Burnley’s highly regarded goalkeeper this summer. The club has initiated discussions to acquire James Trafford, who was previously linked with Chelsea by LondonWorld after being omitted from the England squad for the Euros.
According to a report from The Athletic, Newcastle has swiftly made contact with the goalkeeper, outpacing Chelsea’s interest. Talks between Newcastle and Burnley are reportedly underway, with the Magpies valuing Trafford between £15-20 million.
Trafford, who joined Burnley from Manchester City last year in a deal potentially worth up to £19 million, made 28 Premier League appearances for the Lancashire outfit before being replaced by Arijanet Muric for the final 10 matches of the 2023-24 season.
Following the club’s relegation, Burnley faces the necessity of offloading some of their heavily invested players, with Trafford likely high on the list of potential departures this summer.
Newcastle, despite missing out on European qualification for the upcoming season, aims to bolster its squad through summer transfers, with Trafford potentially marking the beginning of their recruitment drive. This move could be pivotal for Newcastle, especially after Chelsea’s denial of European football for them.
