Phillies Injury Update: Turner and Marsh Running Bases; Realmuto and Clemens Updates Announced

BOSTON — Since day one, Rob Thomson has emphasized the importance of player health throughout the long season.

Recently, the Phillies have faced a slew of injuries across various positions. The team is taking necessary precautions, but recovery is progressing well.

Before Wednesday’s game against the Red Sox, Thomson provided updates on several players:

Trea Turner

Turner, sidelined since May 3 due to a hamstring injury, increased his activities upon the team’s arrival at Fenway.

“Yesterday was good and today we ran the bases,” Thomson said. “It went well. We still need to increase intensity, do stops and starts, simulate scoring from first, and other drills. We’ll do that in the next few days.”

Turner’s intensity was at “eighty-five percent.” He might be activated before the road trip ends in Baltimore, but it’s more likely during next week’s homestand.

Brandon Marsh

Marsh, out since June 3, has been rehabbing. He started baseball activities in Lehigh Valley and is currently with Reading.

“Ran the bases today, he’ll run again tomorrow,” Thomson said. “Then we’ll decide if he’s ready to play in games.”

J.T. Realmuto

Realmuto had right knee meniscectomy surgery and is on the 10-day injured list.

“Surgery went well,” Thomson said. “He’ll be at [Citizens Bank Park] tomorrow for rehab, then we’ll decide if he’ll join us in Baltimore.”

Realmuto’s return is expected in about a month. Garrett Stubbs and Rafael Marchán will cover in his absence, with Marchán making his first start of the season Wednesday in Boston.

Edmundo Sosa

Sosa tweaked his groin sliding into second during the series opener against the Red Sox. He’s out of the lineup Wednesday as a precaution.

“He’s available and he’ll be back in there [Thursday],” Thomson said.

Kody Clemens

Clemens, on the 10-day injured list since June 3 with back spasms, is improving but not yet ready for full baseball activities.

“He’s hitting off a tee, playing long toss, but not doing much baseball activity yet,” Thomson said. “We’re being careful with it.”
