Auburn RB Brian Battie Leaves ICU After Shooting, Begins…

Auburn running back Brian Battie has been moved from the intensive care unit to a trauma unit, as reported on the GoFundMe page set up by his godmothers. Battie suffered a traumatic brain injury from a May shooting in Sarasota, Florida, which critically injured him and killed his brother, Tommie Battie IV.

The update, written by Battie’s mother Adriene, highlights that Brian is making progress, now able to smile, laugh, and say a few words, including “Brother” and “Tommie.” He even managed to write his name. Despite his progress, he faces a long recovery journey, and the family is seeking the best rehabilitation care for his injury.

Adriene’s post reflects the family’s gratitude and hope, despite the immense grief from losing Tommie. She emphasized the importance of continued prayers and support for Brian’s recovery.

Earlier court documents indicated that Battie could face permanent paralysis if he survived the shooting. Sarasota deputies have arrested Darryl Brookins for the murder of Tommie and the attempted murder of Brian. Brookins’ girlfriend, Nicole Roberts, was also arrested for allegedly disposing of the firearm used in the shooting.

Since the incident, Battie has shown gradual improvement, with the latest update marking a significant step forward in his recovery.
