Brewers’ Reliever Abner Uribe to Undergo Knee Surgery for Meniscus Tear

Milwaukee Brewers right-handed reliever Abner Uribe is set to undergo knee surgery for a right lateral meniscus tear, as reported by MLB.com’s Adam McCalvy. The procedure will sideline Uribe for an indefinite period, leaving the Brewers to navigate without one of their bullpen options.

Uribe, who turns 24 this week, had a challenging start to the season with the Brewers. In his 14 appearances, he posted a 6.91 ERA and notched 14 strikeouts over 14 1/3 innings. This early-season performance led to his demotion to the Triple-A Nashville Sounds on May 1.

Adding to his turbulent season, Uribe received a six-game suspension for his involvement in the April brawl between the Rays and Brewers. After an appeal, the suspension was reduced to four games, which he will need to serve upon his return to the majors.

During his time with the Sounds, Uribe showed signs of improvement. In seven appearances, he allowed just one run over 8 2/3 innings, achieving a stellar 1.04 ERA with seven strikeouts. However, his promising stint was cut short when he last pitched on May 25 against the Charlotte Knights, before the knee injury came to light.

Brewers’ general manager Matt Arnold commented on the upcoming surgery, stating that the extent of the procedure could vary. It might be a minor cleanup, but there is also the possibility of a more extensive repair that could sideline Uribe for the remainder of the season.

Uribe’s absence adds to the Brewers’ bullpen challenges, and the team will need to find a way to fill the void left by the young reliever as they push through the season.
