Peter Luccin kicks off his bid for the full-time coaching role as FC Dallas takes on St. Louis City in a crucial clash on Saturday night in Frisco, Texas. Both teams are struggling, with FC Dallas dismissing Nico Estevez after a five-match winless streak extended to a 1-1 draw against Minnesota United on June 8. Currently tied for 12th in the Western Conference with 14 points from a 3-8-5 record, Dallas aims to improve under Luccin’s guidance, particularly addressing their winless 0-6-3 away record.
“In terms of system, shape, formation, I’m more focused on behavior and attitude, which we need to change,” remarked Luccin, who has been an assistant at Dallas since 2019. “I’m leading this project, and my energy will set the tone.”
Liam Fraser netted for FC Dallas in their recent draw, while Petar Musa leads the team with five goals. St. Louis City (3-4-9, 18 points) enters the match after a five-game winless run (0-3-2), including a goalless draw against Portland Timbers on June 8. Despite taking 15 shots against Portland, only four were on target.
“It’s challenging facing a team with a new coach, as there’s always a bounce-back effect and increased energy,” noted St. Louis coach Bradley Carnell. “This weekend will be tough.”
St. Louis, 0-2-5 on the road, is led by Joao Klauss with five goals and previously drew 0-0 against FC Dallas on April 6, where they outshot their opponents 26-10.
