Braves trade prospect has a quality that will appeal to Alex Anthopoulos.

The Atlanta Braves’ situation has rapidly deteriorated. First, young ace Spencer Strider was sidelined for the season with an elbow injury. Then, Ronald Acuña Jr. tore his ACL, followed by Michael Harris II suffering a hamstring injury.

These injuries are likely to influence Alex Anthopoulos’ decisions before the July 31 MLB Trade Deadline. Many predict a repeat of 2021 when Anthopoulos traded for four outfielders after Acuña injured his other knee. While acquiring four players may be a stretch, new additions are expected by Aug. 1.

Pitching, however, is another matter. Despite strong performances from offseason additions Chris Sale and Reynaldo Lopez alongside Max Fried, solidifying the fifth rotation spot could be crucial.

One name linked to the Braves is Los Angeles Angels left-hander Tyler Anderson. MLB insider Jon Heyman recently named Atlanta as the best fit for Anderson, highlighting why Anthopoulos might value him more than other trade targets.

Braves Trade Target Tyler Anderson Has Major Advantage

Anderson is in the second year of a three-year, $40 million contract with the Angels, meaning the Braves could use him for this year’s playoff run and the 2025 season.

While an extra year on his contract could raise the trade price, it benefits the Braves. With Max Fried likely leaving in free agency and Charlie Morton nearing retirement, Anderson could fill one of the rotation gaps, especially if Strider returns by Opening Day. Anderson’s team-friendly contract, combined with his solid performance this season (eight Quality Starts, 2.58 ERA, 1.19 WHIP), makes him a valuable asset.

Anthopoulos is known for unexpected trade moves, but the repeated connections between Anderson and the Braves suggest there’s merit to the rumors. Considering the details, it’s easy to see why.
