Illinois’ coaching at the camp made a strong impression on Trae Taylor, the 2027 QB prospect, describing it as highly beneficial.

Trae Taylor has visited the Illinois campus multiple times to explore what their football program has to offer. However, he sought a firsthand experience of being coached by the Illini staff, particularly with offensive coordinator Barry Lunney Jr. and graduate assistant Artur Sitkowski at the Rising Illini Camp held at Memorial Stadium last Saturday.

“This was my first opportunity to work directly with Coach Lunney and Coach Art, so I wanted to gauge how that experience felt. It was really positive,” Taylor shared with Illini Inquirer. “I was curious about their coaching style, which is somewhat different from others — different terminology. Now, I need to review everything at home and assess how today went.”

Illinois offered Taylor a scholarship in March, adding to the impressive recruiting momentum for the 6-foot-2, 172-pound sophomore from Mundelein (Ill.) Carmel Catholic. Last summer, Taylor received offers from Michigan and Miami (Fla.), and his current summer camp circuit has also yielded offers from Kentucky, Indiana, North Carolina, Iowa, and Ole Miss.
