Imagine the Impact Eli Drinkwitz Elevates Recruiting Game to New Height
Today, let’s discuss improving even further after already making significant strides.
Eli Drinkwitz’s recruiting prowess is well-known; you didn’t come here to read about that. But what if he could take his recruiting skills to an even higher level?
Last Friday, Mizzou secured the commitment of four-star athlete Jamarion Morrow, a running back/wide receiver. Despite indications that he might choose another school, Morrow decided on Mizzou, showcasing Drinkwitz’s ability to close deals unexpectedly. This isn’t the first time Drinkwitz has landed a recruit with minimal fanfare, and it likely won’t be the last.
In his four full recruiting cycles at Mizzou, Drinkwitz’s classes have ranked as low as 32nd (2023) and as high as 18th (2022) according to 247’s Composite Team Ranking. Early in the 2025 cycle, Mizzou sits at 18th in player average rankings, bolstered by the commitment of four-star QB Matt Zollers, who might earn a fifth star later this year. Zollers has pledged to assist in recruiting, and Morrow’s commitment suggests he’s making an impact this summer.
Drinkwitz has improved Mizzou’s national standing not just through recruiting but also by effectively using the transfer portal, making strategic coaching hires, making tough decisions when necessary, and streamlining resources through the Board of Curators. These efforts have been crucial to Mizzou’s success in 2023 and beyond.
It’s exciting to imagine Drinkwitz reaching another level of recruiting excellence. His early success in landing top recruits before even coaching a game hinted at something special in CoMo. If Mizzou’s future recruiting classes can consistently rank in the Top 20 instead of the Top 30, who knows what heights the program could reach?
