NRL Roosters star expected to turn down Super League move despite rumors
The 32-year-old remains one of the NRL’s top halves, but earlier this year, he surprised many by announcing his decision to retire at the end of the season. Recent reports suggested he might reconsider that decision and join the Super League, specifically signing with the Catalans Dragons.
These reports emerged yesterday via Rugby League Live and were also covered by Fox Sports in Australia. According to Foxsport.com.au, “the 32-year-old has had another change of heart and will now play for the Catalans in the south of France next year.”
However, The Daily Telegraph has dismissed these reports, stating that Luke Keary is “unlikely to change his mind on retirement” and will turn down the offer from Catalans.
This would have been a significant acquisition for the Super League, as Keary has been one of the top halves in the NRL over the past decade. His addition would have greatly benefited Catalans, who have struggled since the retirement of Mitchell Pearce and fellow playmaker Sam Tomkins.
Instead, it appears that Steve McNamara’s team will need to explore other options.
