Red Sox Set Franchise Record with Nine Stolen Bases in Dominant Win Over Yankees

David Hamilton #70 of the Boston Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox showcased their speed and dominance on Sunday night at Fenway Park, steamrolling the New York Yankees with a 9-3 victory marked by a historic display of base-stealing prowess.

Boston set a new single-game franchise record with nine stolen bases, breaking the previous record set in 1940. Leading the charge was David Hamilton, who swiped four bags, followed by Jarren Duran with two. Dominic Smith, Bobby Dalbec, and Ceddanne Rafaela each added a stolen base to the tally, contributing to the impressive total.

The Red Sox’s aggressive baserunning under the primetime lights prompted curiosity about the team’s fastest player. Reporters asked Hamilton if he considered himself faster than Duran. The infielder was noncommittal but open to the idea of a friendly race.

“He’s pretty fast,” Hamilton remarked about Duran, according to MassLive. “We’ve gotta get a race going sometime. Maybe this offseason. We’ll see.”

As of Monday, Hamilton leads the Red Sox with 18 stolen bases on the season, ranking third in the American League. Duran is not far behind with 17 stolen bases, despite playing in 25 more games than his speedy teammate.

Boston’s base-stealing prowess will be put to the test again as they head into a three-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays. NESN’s coverage of the series opener begins at 6 p.m. ET on Monday night.

The Red Sox’s victory and record-setting performance highlight their dynamic approach and capability to wreak havoc on the base paths, providing a thrilling spectacle for fans and a daunting challenge for their rivals.
