In 2026, Jakob Weatherspoon, a defensive back from Avon, Ohio, concluded his camp season with an impactful visit to South Bend on Monday, where he departed Notre Dame’s campus with a coveted offer.

“It was an amazing experience,” Weatherspoon shared with ISD. “I had a fantastic time at camp and performed really well.”

Standing at 5-foot-11 and weighing 172 pounds, Weatherspoon gained valuable insight into the Notre Dame coaching staff during the camp, particularly with defensive backs coach Mike Mickens and his coaching approach.

“I really liked his coaching style,” noted Weatherspoon. “He’s pretty laid-back but delivers effective coaching, which resonated well with me.”

After the camp, Notre Dame recruiting associate Carter Auman gave Weatherspoon a tour of The Gug and introduced him to head coach Marcus Freeman.

“It was a great meeting,” said Weatherspoon. “Coach Freeman is a genuine and down-to-earth person. He’s knowledgeable and genuinely cares about his players.”

Weatherspoon’s recruitment has gained momentum this month with offers from Illinois, Marshall, Ohio State, Pitt, and Wisconsin, among others.

“It’s been an exciting time,” Weatherspoon remarked. “I feel blessed to have these opportunities, although it’s also challenging. But that’s part of the process, and I’m grateful.”

Looking ahead, the Avon standout is turning his focus towards the upcoming season but plans to visit a few more schools next month, with Notre Dame high on his list.

“I’m aiming to make a couple of visits in July,” he explained. “I hope to attend the BBQ event and possibly catch a game as well.”

Current offers include Akron, Illinois, Marshall, Miami (OH), Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, Syracuse, Toledo, and Wisconsin.
