Reports indicate that the Atlanta Falcons considered Josh McDaniels for a front-office or coaching position.

The Atlanta Falcons have experienced significant changes this offseason, including a new head coach and quarterback. Reports suggest the Falcons nearly hired Josh McDaniels for a pivotal role in their future.

Ultimately, the Falcons appointed Raheem Morris as head coach to succeed Arthur Smith. However, Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated recently disclosed that Atlanta had considered McDaniels for a dual front office/coaching position in 2024.

“Interestingly enough, former Las Vegas Raiders and Denver Broncos coach Josh McDaniels was being considered for a hybrid front office-coaching role had Belichick landed with the Atlanta Falcons. Much of Houston Texans GM Nick Caserio’s background, before leading New England’s personnel department, was in coaching.

Both Belichick and McDaniels have close relationships with Stevens, so it’s reasonable to assume these transitions from coaching to personnel have been discussion points within that group,” Breer reported.

The Falcons seemed interested in hiring McDaniels only if Bill Belichick was brought on board first. Although it seemed likely that Belichick would join Atlanta, the Falcons eventually decided that Coach Morris was the better long-term choice. The rest, as they say, is history.

Since being fired by the Las Vegas Raiders in October 2023, McDaniels has not secured another NFL position. According to Breer, McDaniels is interested in returning to the league but has not yet found the right opportunity.
