Leeds have made substantial investments in recent years, signing players like Brenden Aaronson and Georginio Rutter for a combined cost of £60m, though it’s likely that not all of this has been paid yet.

Leeds United still owe money for an “unbelievable” defender. FC Barcelona Noticias lists 15 players for whom Barcelona is still owed money, including Junior Firpo, who joined Leeds for £13m in 2021. Firpo, who has made 84 appearances for Leeds, is among players like PSV Eindhoven’s Sergino Dest, Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo, and Sporting Lisbon’s Francisco Trincao who are still due payments.

As Firpo enters the final 12 months of his contract, Leeds face a decision. They must either extend his contract, which seems unlikely given Firpo’s appeal to top-tier clubs, or sell him this summer to avoid losing him on a free transfer next year, which would be a significant financial loss.
