Hoosiers Land Star Defensive Back Commitment from Georgia

Georgia prospect Zacharey Smith announced today his commitment to the Indiana football program after his official visit with the Hoosiers.

The 6-foot, 170-pound standout from Hapeville Charter Career Academy in Atlanta becomes the second cornerback recruit for head coach Curt Cignetti and his staff in the 2025 recruiting class.

Previously committed to Pittsburgh, Smith opted for IU over the Panthers and received offers from Auburn, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Louisville, SMU, Texas A&M, West Virginia, Akron, Appalachian State, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Marshall, South Florida, Temple, and Austin Peay.

Smith’s initial visit to Bloomington during spring practice in March left a strong impression on him, as he discussed with Peegs.com his reasons for favoring the Hoosiers: “The coaching staff and the support they showed me compared to other programs. My relationship with the staff has been exceptional.”

According to Smith, Indiana’s coaches expressed enthusiasm about his capabilities at cornerback, particularly praising his ball skills. Last season, Smith showcased his talent with 19 tackles, three interceptions (including a pick-six), and two tackles for loss. Additionally, he contributes on offense as a receiver and as a return specialist for Hapeville Charter Academy.

After expanding the list from 80 prospects to 125 players, 247Sports has highlighted several newcomers and significant risers in their latest update. Here’s a breakdown of the prospects who made notable debuts and substantial jumps:

ANTHONY THOMPSON

Ranking: No. 11

Anthony Thompson emerges as the highest debutant in the class, impressing with his skills and potential. Standing tall at 6-foot-7, Thompson recently transferred to Hudson (Ohio) Western Reserve Academy, showcasing a smooth shooting touch from deep and athleticism at the forward position. Despite his youth, he presents considerable upside for the long term.

Recruitment: Thompson has received offers from Dayton and Iowa during the contact period, with interest also from Indiana, Louisville, Marquette, Ohio State, Purdue, Tennessee, Texas, and others.

TONI BRYANT

Ranking: No. 18

Toni Bryant has surged 24 spots into the top-20 ranks, renowned for his size, length, and dynamic athleticism. Hailing from Zephyrhills (Fla.), the 6-foot-9 power forward excels above the rim and is sought after for his unique playmaking abilities.

Recruitment: Bryant has garnered attention from Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Marquette, Michigan, NC State, Ohio State, Tennessee, Texas, and Texas A&M.

TAYLEN KINNEY

Ranking: No. 26

Taylen Kinney climbs 30 spots following standout performances in the Adidas 3SSB Circuit and with USA Basketball. The six-foot guard from Newport (Ky.) is lauded for his high basketball IQ and toughness on both ends of the floor.

Recruitment: Kinney has received interest from Arkansas, Cincinnati, Clemson, Georgetown, Indiana, Notre Dame, Kentucky, Louisville, Rutgers, Western Kentucky, and Xavier.

DAVION ADKINS

Ranking: No. 32

Davion Adkins has garnered national attention with his stellar play at USA Basketball and with Southern Assault 16U. Known as one of the top shot blockers in his class, the Oak Cliff (Texas) Faith Family product combines defensive prowess with agility and soft hands.

Recruitment: Adkins has attracted interest from Baylor, Colorado, Kansas, Kentucky, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, San Diego, SMU, Stanford, TCU, Texas, Texas Tech, and Vanderbilt.

CAMERON WILLIAMS

Ranking: No. 34

Cameron Williams makes a significant debut after a growth spurt, showcasing a reliable mid-range shooting touch uncommon for his age. Standing at 6-foot-10, the Phoenix (Ariz.) native utilizes his size effectively, displaying competitiveness in rebounding and shot-blocking.

Recruitment: Williams has an offer from Washington State as his reported option.

JALAN WINGFIELD

Ranking: No. 45

Jalan Wingfield enters the rankings with a strong showing on the Adidas 3SSB Circuit. The 6-foot-7 forward from Thomasville (Ga.), son of former NBA player Dontonio Wingfield, brings power and explosiveness around the basket, coupled with promising potential.

Recruitment: Wingfield has received interest from Auburn, Cincinnati, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Nebraska, Virginia Tech, and others.

CHRISTIAN COLLINS

Ranking: No. 49

Christian Collins secures a top-50 spot with his impressive physical attributes and skills. The son of former McDonald’s All-American D’Angelo Collins, Christian excels with his perimeter play, ball-handling, and versatility at the forward position.

Recruitment: Collins holds offers from Arizona State, California, USC, Pittsburgh, UCLA, and Washington, with reported interest from USC and others.

MILES SADLER

Ranking: No. 55

Miles Sadler stands out as a consistent performer known for his agility and shooting ability. The versatile player has proven himself against top competition and is noted for his ability to contribute on both ends of the floor.

Recruitment: Sadler has been in contact with Arizona State, holding offers from the Sun Devils, Cal State Northridge, and Weber State.

CHRISTIAN GIBSON

Ranking: No. 62

Christian Gibson is recognized for his scoring prowess and physical stature as a 6-foot-5 guard from Katy (Texas) Mayde Creek. A standout on the EYBL Circuit, Gibson showcases maturity and a strong ability to generate offense.

Recruitment: Gibson recently received an offer from TCU and has heard from Houston, Oklahoma, Rice, Texas, and UCF.

FAVOUR IBE

Ranking: No. 64

Favour Ibe makes his debut after making an impression at the NBPA Top 100 camp. Standing tall at 7-foot-2 from Lanham (Md.) Mt. Zion Prep, Ibe possesses remarkable size and potential for further development.

Recruitment: Ibe has received offers from Maryland and Michigan, with additional interest from Arizona State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, and Louisville.
