Oregon Ducks football program has made a substantial stride in their recruiting efforts with the commitment of defensive lineman Josiah Sharma from Folsom, California. Sharma, following an unofficial visit earlier this month, promptly scheduled an official visit to Eugene last weekend, where he was impressed by the university’s atmosphere and coaching staff.
“Oregon is a really scenic place,” Sharma remarked. “It’s one of the best colleges on the West Coast and I love the coaches there.”
The relationship with defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi has been pivotal in Sharma’s decision-making process.
“It’s been mostly my relationship with coach Tosh,” Sharma explained. “I want to say it’s half-half with coach (Tony) Tuioti, but I see the most influence from him. I like how he goes over the nitty gritty, and the detail he shows. He’s really comfortable with people.”
Sharma also acknowledged the contributions of defensive line coach Tony Tuioti.
“Coach Tuioti, he’s a little more serious and more calm,” Sharma noted. “He has a different type of character, which I like in a coach.”
Head coach Dan Lanning’s energy and approach have also left a lasting impression on Sharma.
“Coach Lanning, he’s very energetic,” Sharma added. “He’s young and having a college coach like him, you can relate to him.”
During his visit, Sharma was hosted by fellow Northern California native Jericho Johnson, which helped solidify his connection to the team.
“Jericho (Johnson) was my host and he’s hecka cool,” Sharma said. “I already feel like I’m welcome to the circle.”
Looking ahead, Sharma plans to take an official visit to Alabama after previously visiting Washington and Texas.
“After that, we’ll end this thing,” Sharma concluded. “I’m ready to get it over with.”
Sharma’s recruitment journey has been closely watched, with Oregon emerging as a frontrunner after his positive experiences on campus and rapport with the coaching staff. His commitment would add depth and talent to the Ducks’ defensive line, making him a significant addition to their upcoming seasons.
