Paul Finebaum Discloses ‘Quickest Route To Credibility’ For Struggling SEC Coach

The Auburn Tigers are coming off their third consecutive losing season, finishing 6-7 in Hugh Freeze’s first year in 2023. Despite this, Coach Freeze has made significant strides this offseason to rebuild the team into contenders.

Auburn had a strong offseason, securing the No. 10 recruiting class and the No. 28 transfer portal class for 2024, according to 247Sports. Freeze is also laying the groundwork for the 2025 recruiting class, currently ranked No. 6 with 15 commits.

On his show, Paul Finebaum suggested that Freeze should focus on the transfer portal to quickly gain credibility. “I think he needs to continue to be in the portal,” Finebaum said. “That’s the quickest route to credibility right now.”

Auburn benefits from a favorable schedule, ranked No. 12 in the SEC by Sports Illustrated, with five consecutive home games to start the season. If the Tigers show improvement in Freeze’s second year, it will boost their chances of attracting top talent from both the portal and high schools.
