Texas Tech Football Secures 2025 Offensive Lineman.
Since his arrival in Lubbock, Texas Tech football head coach Joey McGuire has focused on strengthening the program’s offensive line through high school recruiting. This effort continues with the class of 2025, as the Red Raiders have secured a commitment from 3-star prospect Patrick McMath.
According to 247Sports.com, McMath, a 6-foot-4, 255-pound player from Katy, Texas, is ranked No. 1241 nationally and No. 91 among interior offensive linemen. In Texas, he is rated the No. 191 player by the 247Sports composite rankings.
McMath is the first offensive lineman to commit to Texas Tech in the current recruiting cycle. He had offers from several Big 12 programs, including Arizona, Baylor, BYU, and Houston, along with offers from other conferences.
Texas Tech has historically struggled to build a strong offensive line. The previous coaching staffs under Kliff Kingsbury and Matt Wells failed to maintain a robust pipeline, leaving McGuire and his team to rapidly assemble a competitive group capable of withstanding the rigors of the Big 12.
This season, the offensive line is set to feature three former transfers as likely starters, including two first-year transfers expected to make immediate impacts. Since McGuire took over, the program has added eight offensive linemen through the transfer portal, averaging four per recruiting class, indicating his ongoing search for solutions at this position.
Looking ahead, the program will need to fill significant gaps, as seniors Caleb Rogers, Sterling Porcher, Vinny Sciury, and Davior Carter will all be graduating in 2025.
Despite losing a couple of 2025 commits on Sunday, Texas Tech’s recruiting class for 2025 still includes 14 commits and is ranked No. 25 in the nation by 247Sports.
