Battlehawks Face Another Setback as Star Linebacker Departs

The St. Louis Battlehawks have continued their strong offseason as another player has made the jump to the NFL.

Linebacker Willie Harvey Jr. officially joined the Cowboys on Tuesday following a successful workout with Dallas, a move anticipated once the UFL season wrapped up.

Harvey had a standout season, leading the league with 78 tackles. The 28-year-old linebacker also recorded nine tackles for loss, four sacks, six pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery in 10 games. His performance earned him a spot on the All-UFL team as an inside linebacker, and he was one of five Battlehawks selected for the honor.

In the XFL last year, Harvey started for St. Louis and tallied 59 tackles in 10 games. Undrafted in 2019, he previously spent three seasons with the Cleveland Browns, contributing two tackles across four games. Harvey showcased his skills at Iowa State, earning a berth in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl in January 2019.

Harvey becomes the third Battlehawks player to sign with the NFL this offseason, following Jaryd Jones-Smith and Jacob Saylors. He also joins D.C. Defenders cornerback Gareon Conley as the second UFL player to join the Cowboys.

St. Louis finished the season with a 7-3 record and claimed the XFL Conference title during the regular season before losing to the San Antonio Brahmas in the playoffs.
